Introduction ::

“Monitoring of DT using Cellular communication” is meant for measuring, monitoring electric consumption at Distribution Transformer. This system provides the facility to measure the values at distribution transformer and monitor them at remotely located monitoring station. One user interface has been provided through which administrator can see the graph of all the parameters. Threshold has been defined to control each parameter at distribution transformer , so when any parameter value exceeds threshold it generates an alarm. This provides real time monitoring and immediately recovery action can be taken which will avoid damage.

Current Status ::

  • Initially a detailed analysis was carried out and the design of the entire system was arrived at.

  • After an extensive study, the DLMS based energy meter from “Actaris” and Modbus energy meter from “Conzerv” has been selected for the purpose of the project.

  • Interfacing microcontroller with the GSM modem as well as energy meter (both DLMS and MODBUS type) has been achieved.

  • The back end of the monitoring station has been developed. Three layers of the front end have been developed and remaining one layer for report generation is in development.

  • Monitoring station can communicate with remote DTs using SMS and values of parameters at the DTs are being stored in database at monitoring station. Using the developed GUI one can see the parameter values in graph format, and can generate and transfer configuration file of a DT.

  • The system is under testing with four DTs.
